According to a report published by BASF, chemical production (excluding pharmaceuticals) will grow by 3.4% in 2017. It is estimated that over 100 million metric tons of new capacity is expected to be added in the U.S. chemical industry by 2025. A significant part of the new capacity additions in the chemical sector is expected to be converted into plastics and fertilizers. According to the American Chemical Council, exports of specific chemicals specifically linked to shale gas are projected to reach a value of USD 123 billion by 2030. Proposed changes to trade, energy, tax, regulations, and transportation policies are expected to add up over USD 58 billion to the potential export growth in the chemical sector alone.
